What ‘The Cybele Village’ is..
Our family support group is for parents, carers, & family members of Trans, non-binary, and gender diverse youth, and is facilitated by parents of Trans+ youth. Love & affirmation for our young people is at the centre of our intention for this group.
Yes, of course your children can attend too. There will be crafts & snacks for them.
We recognise that we may all be in different stages of our journey so we have a non-judgemental and learning ethos to explore the complexities of supporting our young people, as their first advocate. With ground rules of respect, inclusion, confidentiality, and compassion, we hope to build the village our families need.
Cybele (SIB-uh-lee) was an ancient intersex deity, known in Greek & Roman mythology as ‘Magna Mater’ and the Goddess of wild nature. May she look over us all.
The Cybele Village is NOT…
- Whilst the facilitators are trained to provide therapeutic safe spaces, this group is NOT therapy or personal counselling.
- We do not believe in conversion therapy, actively advocate against it, and do NOT deny other people’s identity.
- We believe in autonomy & empowerment and can NOT tell others what to do.
- We will NOT tolerate any deliberate hateful behaviour/language pertaining to the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010.
- We will NOT hold any personal details of attendees (according to GDPR).
- We will remove attendees who break the confidentially rules of the group and they will NOT be allowed to return.
How to access The Cybele Village…
Safety & privacy is our priority therefore the location will never be disclosed publicly.
We will also only publish a few dates at a time.
If you, or someone you know, would benefit from attending our support group we will need to verify that you are an actual parent/carer of a trans, non-binary, gender diverse person.
If you are already known to trusted colleagues and they refer you in, a simple message is enough. If you are not known, we’ll need to have a chat. It allows you to get to know us a little before coming, and it allows us to protect the privacy of the group.
