National Museums Liverpool is proud to now be included in the Safe Spaces Merseyside Directory, reaffirming our commitment to providing welcoming, inclusive and respectful environments where everyone can feel safe, valued and supported. Our inclusion in the Safe Spaces Merseyside Directory is one of the ways we demonstrate our ongoing commitment to creating museums and galleries that are welcoming spaces for people of all gender identities.
We do not tolerate discrimination and strive to create environments where all visitors, staff and volunteers are treated with dignity and respect.
Over many years we have worked with communities and partners to develop content that reflects a broad range of lived experiences, including exhibitions such as April Ashley: Portrait of a Lady, and we have recognised key moments of reflection and awareness including Transgender Day of Remembrance and Trans Day of Visibility.
Through our exhibitions, collections, displays, events and public programmes, we aim to challenge prejudice, celebrate diversity and promote understanding. Our work reflects the richness of human experience, including the stories, histories and contributions of transgender and non-binary people as an integral part of our shared culture and society.
We will continue to learn, evolve and engage authentically and respectfully with trans communities and partner organisations, ensuring that their voices and experiences are represented and valued through our work.
